Itinerary
Why Visit Grampians?
Our single-day excursion from Melbourne takes you to the magnificent Grampians National Park tour.
Guests will feel they have travelled back in time while exploring the Ancient Landscape, characterized by its craggy mountain ranges and breathtaking sandstone ridges. This tour, led by knowledgeable guides, presents an unparalleled chance to delve into the region’s natural beauty and historical background.
Enjoy a morning tea in Country Victoria
Departing from the city, we embark on a 250 km journey westward, traversing landscapes steeped in Victorian Goldrush heritage. En route, we pause in a quaint town to explore its mining legacy and enjoy a morning tea or coffee.
Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre
Upon reaching Grampians National Park, guests can explore the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Here, they can delve into the region’s origin tales and cultural significance. The centre also provides opportunities to spot native Wildlife like wallabies, emus, and echidnas. This part of the tour enriches visitors’ understanding of Gariwerd’s significance to Indigenous communities.
Reeds Lookout and The Balconies
At Reed’s Lookout, expansive views stretch to Lake Wartook, encompassing the Victoria Valley and Mount Difficult Range.
Next, we embark on a shaded hike through eucalyptus trees and intriguing rock formations leading to The Balconies. This spot reveals the renowned ‘Jaws of Death’, offering majestic views and scenery that inspired the Japanese Animation’ Princess Mononoke’.
Hike to Mackenzie Falls
As one of Victoria Valley’s most iconic waterfalls, we trek back to admire the cascade’s volume and the refreshing mist.
The journey involves roughly 250 steps to the base and return. Alternatively, if you prefer a gentler, flat route over the top of the falls, that’s completely acceptable!
Should Mackenzie Falls be inaccessible to visitors, we would substitute this part of the tour with a serene hike to Silverband Falls.
Boroka Lookout
A stop at the Boroka lookout offers a picturesque view of the stunning scenery. Depending on weather conditions, an alternative option is to visit Lake Bellfield and experience the immensity between the two mountain ranges while walking along the damn.
Kangaroo and Wildlife Spotting
In the town of Halls Gap, an abundance of kangaroos can be seen in the evening, grazing on the grass, eliminating the need for residents to own a lawn mower.
Visiting the Grampians, you will probably encounter various Australian bird species, such as kookaburras and emus. However, it is guaranteed that you will not depart from the area without observing a kangaroo.
On occasion, we have the opportunity to observe echidnas and wallabies. Please remember not to feed the Wildlife, but ensure your camera battery is fully charged.
Return to Melbourne
At some point, we need to return to the city. The journey from the Grampians takes around 3 hours, and there is a stop along the way to buy dinner (at your own cost).
After a day of exploration, take some time to unwind and contemplate. You will arrive in Melbourne around 8.30 pm and can be dropped off at your original pickup point or nearby public transportation hubs.
